How to Install the Allo Mobile App on Android and iOS
Download the Allo mobile app from the App Store or Google Play, grant permissions, and complete first-launch onboarding with your organisation invite.
The Allo app is the interface you use to compose and read messages, manage contacts, and monitor your connection to your Allo client device. It is available for both iPhone and Android smartphones and takes only a few minutes to install. Before you start, make sure you have everything listed in the prerequisites below — you will need your invitation ready during the setup flow.
Prerequisites
- An organisation invitation. Your Allo administrator sends this as a QR code or an invite link. You cannot complete setup without it.
- An Allo client device. Have the device nearby and charged. You will pair it with the app after installation.
- Bluetooth enabled. Turn on Bluetooth in your phone's settings before you open the app for the first time.
Before installing the app, plug your Allo client device into its USB charger and power it on by pressing the bottom button. Once it has booted, the device screen shows its name and a 6-digit Bluetooth PIN — you will need that PIN in the next step after installation.
Install and set up the app
Download the app
Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android) and search for Allo. Tap Get or Install to download and install the app.
If your organisation is running a closed pilot, your administrator may provide a direct download link or an APK file for Android side-loading. Use the link they gave you instead of searching the store.
Open the app and tap Get started
Launch the Allo app after installation. On the welcome screen, tap Get started to begin the onboarding flow. If you have set up Allo on a previous device and already have an account, tap I already have an account at the bottom of the screen.
Scan your organisation QR code (or follow the invite link)
Point your phone's camera at the registration QR code your administrator provided. The QR code links your account to your organisation, its groups, and its settings automatically.
If you received an invite by email, open the invite link on your phone to launch the app at the same screen.
Enter and verify your email address
Type the email address that your organisation used to invite you, then tap Send code. Allo sends a 6-digit verification code to that address.
Open your email, find the message from Allo, and copy the code. If you do not see it within a minute or two, check your spam or junk folder.
Enter the verification code in the app and tap Verify to confirm your identity.
Grant permissions
Allo asks for three permissions during setup. All three are required for the app to work correctly:
| Permission | Why it is needed |
|---|---|
| Bluetooth | Connects the app to your Allo client device |
| Camera | Scans QR codes during setup and in the field |
| Notifications | Delivers message alerts when the app is in the background |
Tap Allow all to grant these permissions. If you decline any permission, you can enable it later in your phone's Settings under the Allo app entry.
Opt in to anonymous usage data (optional)
The app may ask whether you want to share anonymous usage data to help improve Allo. Tap Allow tracking to opt in or No thanks to decline. Either choice does not affect the app's functionality.
After completing these steps, the app is installed and your account is linked to your organisation. The next step is to pair your Allo client device with the app over Bluetooth.
